The Realisation Festival, a collaboration between Perspectiva and St Giles House, was scheduled for May 2020, but the Coronavirus obliged us to change our plans.
Since the venue was so crucial to the ethos of the event and we had several interactive events planned, we could not put the whole festival online and did not try to. However, we marked the passing of the planned event with this online gathering.
The collaboration is based on a shared connection to the idea of Bildung, loosely translated as ‘transformative civic education’ and stems partly from the work of the third Earl of Shaftesbury, and all the talks broadly relate to the connection between individual and societal development in a particular historical context. The term ‘realisation’ is, we believe, the best single-word rendering of the term Bildung in English, which speaks to the name of the festival.
Speakers in the video include Fiona Kendall (introductory reflection), Pippa Evans (host), Jonathan Rowson, Nick Shaftsbury, Lene Rachel Andersen, Tomas Bjorkman, Mark Vernon. There are questions from Iain McGilchrist, Minna Salami and Gary Lachman.

There will be a Realisation Festival in late spring/early summer of 2021, hopefully offline. The emphasis of the event will be related to the themes above, but we also anticipate new ideas and practices that better speak to how the world has changed during the pandemic.
